From the Halls of Montezuma

According to this report the Marines are interested in developing a reusable spaceplane for delivering a strikeforce of troops anywhere in the world in a big hurry, getting them there in two hours or less, and then getting them out when the job is done.

The discussion on that board is rather interesting, but they ignore one rather crucial factor (at least the entries I scanned): I'd hate to lead anyone into a hostile situation immediately after all the acceleration necessary for such a set of suborbital maneuvers. I can hear it now: "Guns? Check. Ammo? Check. Armor plating? Check. GPS/biodata/commlink? Check. Hydration pack? Check. MROs? Check. Compazine suppositories?..."

I'm afraid that fast in-theater transportation is far more feasible, and given the advances we can expect in drone aircraft, likely to come much more quickly.

Shouldn't that title be "From the Pits of Aldeberan IX"?

Perhaps they'll hire Michael Flynn as a consultant.
