Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

It's being like that.

Apparently, we had misplaced the kids' Social Security cards and birth certificates. This is at a point in time when K really needs her Social Security card, although it is possible that the deadline for that doing any good has slipped by. I am not sure.

But today, I sat down and started going through the shelves where they seemed most likely to have gone to hide. And -- surprise! -- the first shelf that I picked was the right shelf, the Social Security cards and birth certificates have been found, and a large amount of old paperwork that we no longer need has either been consigned to the recycling bin or placed in a separate pile for shredding.

Unfortunately, I did all of this work while the online Windycon meeting was going on, because I had for some reason gotten it in my head that the meeting was at 6 PM, not at 1 PM. Oops. I figured that out about the time the minutes arrived.

Meanwhile, K has been trying to submit passport applications with her mother's approval. What I didn't realize until I got a text from my bank was that she had been doing this through a site that charges you an exorbitant fee for doing essentially nothing other than letting you fill out the form. The charge was declined, but I didn't want my card shut down for fraud, and before I could get it sorted out, K seems to have submitted one of the four applications again. So we are out that amount of money.

Everyone is now mad at everyone else, it seems.

I am going to fill out the forms from the government site now on my computer.

*sigh*
